The Hong Kong Police (HKP) Facebook page was officially launched on October 5, receiving more than 30 000 comments on its first day of launch.

Following the launch of HKP Mobile App in 2012 and HKP YouTube channel in 2013, the Force uses the HKP Facebook page as a direct and interactive interface to reach out to different sectors of the community.

Before the official launch, the Force has made reference to the experiences of overseas law enforcement agencies as well as other Hong Kong government departments. It has also established contact with the Facebook management for the safety and security measures of the system. The HKP Facebook page is administrated by the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Social Media Communication Section.

The HKP Facebook page will not only promote Force events and anti-crime messages, but also portray stories of police officers, with the aim to give the public a better understanding of the different spectra of police work.

The Facebook page will also have a variety of clips to attract the public, including the interviews conducted by Junior Police Call student reporters at the Police Dog Unit and special series on scams.

PPRB Chief Superintendent Hui Chun-tak has appealed to Force members to browse the HKP Facebook page and offer comments. He has also called on them to make good use of their creativity and sense of humour to become a "Creative Media Communicator".

Commissioner Lo Wai-chung made an advanced announcement of the launch of HKP Facebook page on September 30. He also appealed to Force members to browse and assist in promoting the page.
