Commissioner Lo Wai-chung visited the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force Headquarters on August 26 to look at the training for the auxiliary police, provided by the Auxiliary Support Bureau. He also attended the Commandant's Conference to meet auxiliary commanders and thank auxiliary officers for their contributions.
At the conference, Mr Lo expressed appreciation of auxiliary officers' support and devotion to duty. He pointed out that during large-scale public events, auxiliary officers rendered full support for frontline patrol duties outside the working hours of their principal employment, diligently maintaining law and order and protecting life and property.
Mr Lo further pointed out that the Force management would explore the possibility of expanding the job variety of auxiliary officers. Regular senior police officers would compliment auxiliary officers with outstanding performances so as to give recognition of their important roles, Mr Lo said.
Mr Lo went on to highlight the growing importance of engaging the community resulting from a changing social environment. He said auxiliary officers, being ordinary members of the public, could act as a police ambassador to help their relatives and friends understand police work better. "While our auxiliary officers understand the work and challenges of the Force, they regularly come into contact with people from all walks of life. Therefore, they are a suitable and reliable intermediary to promote the vision, mission and values of the Force."
