Besides its normal duties, the Enforcement and Control Division of Traffic New Territories North (E&C NTN) also provides an escort service to assist other agencies in delivering large objects. Recently, E&C NTN helped with the delivery of a large Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which was used in the construction of the Lung Shan Tunnel of the Liantang Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point, from Tuen Mun Public Cargo Working Area to a work site in Sha Tau Kok Road.

The TBM is very huge with a weight of over 100 tons. In view of its huge size, the TBM was divided into smaller parts for delivery to the destination. The diameter of the divided parts ranged from 3.5m to 7.5m.

As the delivery fleets would occupy two lanes and drive very slowly in around 10km to 30km per hour during the whole course of delivery, in order to maintain road safety, E&C NTN escorted the delivery fleets to the destination. A total of 61 divided parts were delivered from April to September at 13 separate nights.

Throughout the whole delivery process, the professionalism displayed by the escort team not only gained the recognition of the contractor, but also allowed construction works to commence without delay.
