The 2015 Annual Gathering of the Hong Kong Police Volunteer Services Corps (HKPVSC) was held on September 19 at Police Headquarters, with HKPVSC Convener, Chief Superintendent Wong Kwok-wai, officiating.
At the annual gathering, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Director of Operations Lau Yip-shing and Mr Cheung Siu-wah, who is one of the founders of HKPVSC and a former Assistant Commissioner, presented the "Award for Volunteer Service (Group)", "Award for Volunteer Service (Individual)", "Long Service Award" and "Award for Volunteer Service (Family)" to individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
In his speech, Mr Lo thanked all the volunteers for helping people in need and encouraged Force members and their families to continue supporting volunteer services.
At present, there are over 30 police voluntary service teams and thousands of police volunteers frequently participating in various types of voluntary services. Although many police officers were engaged in large-scale public events last year, HKPVSC volunteers still devoted a total of 87 000 hours to voluntary services. Last year, the police voluntary teams were awarded 19 gold , six silver and four bronze awards in "Group" and "Family" categories by the Social Welfare Department. In addition, 21 police volunteers were presented with "Long Service Award".
At the annual gathering, Mr Chan Kam-fai from Wai Ji Christian Service and Mr Yip Cham-kai from Hong Kong Volunteer Awardees Society introduced the visions of their organisations and shared with the volunteers the satisfaction of serving the community. Representatives from the Agency for Volunteer Service, Active School, OXFAM Hong Kong, the Salvation Army and ORBIS attended the annual gathering as guests of honour to show their support for HKPVSC.
The gathering ended with members pledging to serve more people in keeping with the spirit of the HKPVSC.
