To keep abreast of the latest trend of examinations and equip Force examiners and assessors with relevant professional qualifications, the Examinations and Assessment Centre (E&AC) of Police College has rolled out a number of initiatives.

On September 23, a total of 20 officers from Force Examinations Board (FEB), E&AC and various training units attended a one-day Certificate Course on Assessment Literacy Training. Giving an opening speech, Police College Deputy Director, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Cheng Tak-ming, encouraged the participants to beef up their professional knowledge and skills of assessment.

The Certificate Course was tailor-made to meet the training needs of Force examiners and assessors. At the end of the training, both the participants and speakers indicated that they had benefited from an interactive discussion and experience sharing.

Apart from sending officers to attend overseas training to acquire Certificate IV in Training and Assessment at the CBD College Sydney, Australia, in February, E&AC also succeeded in joining and getting accepted as a primary member of the world renowned International Association for Educational Assessment in March. Moreover, to further improve quality assurance for detective training, the written examination of the Standard Criminal Investigation Course came under the purview of the FEB in May and a Senior Superintendent from the crime stream was appointed a co-opted member of the FEB in July.

E&A Seminar

The next major event will be the Inaugural Annual E&A Seminar to be held on October 28. The seminar will comprise two parts, with Part I covering "Demystifying Examinations: Grading, Standard & World Trends" to be presented by Professor Hau Kit-tai, Professor of Educational Psychology and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In Part II, Police Clinical Psychologist Samantha Yung will talk about the ways to cope with examination-related stress, while Superintendent Roger Mui and Superintendent Cynthia Fung, both being experienced markers/assessors of the Inspectorate Standard III Professional Examinations, will cover the common mistakes in tackling open-ended questions.
