To help frontline officers hone their skills of handling mentally disordered persons (MDPs), Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) invited psychiatric experts from Kwai Chung Hospital to run 10 seminars and training for the officers between September and October. The seminars elaborated on the mental conditions of a MDP and helped the officers master their skills of identifying and helping MDPs. The experts also offered dos and don'ts for, and useful tips on, handling and helping MDPs.
KWTDIST rolled out "Project New Dawn" in 2010 in a bid to provide more support for MDPs and their families by working closely with other government departments and non-governmental organisations. Three main strategies have been adopted for the project: strengthening training for frontline officers, facilitating early identification of MDP cases and promoting multi-professional co-operation.
