Police Constable (PC) Lee Sze-chun from Training and Staff Relations Office New Territories North has donated his bone marrow to save the life of a patient suffering from Myelofibrosis.
A regular blood donor, PC Lee is also a registered bone marrow donor. Upon being informed last year that his bone marrow was suitable for transplant, he never hesitated and went through further assessments. PC Lee recovered promptly after the transplant and felt great for having saved a life.
For many patients, bone marrow transplant is the only hope. The selfless act of donating bone marrow can save patients battling with leukemia and other serious blood diseases. Officers interested in becoming a bone marrow donor can register on the Bone Marrow Donor Registry while donating blood.
