Inspector (IP) Chan Sze-ki was laid to rest at Gallant Garden, Wo Hop Shek, on October 17, following a funeral service with Police honours at the Universal Funeral Parlour, Hung Hom.

When IP Chan's family held a vigil at the funeral parlour in the evening before his funeral service, the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, Under Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee, and Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law, went to the funeral parlour to pay their last respects to IP Chan.

About 400 people attended the funeral service on October 17 to pay their last respects to IP Chan. Among them were Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, Legislative Council members, Messrs Ip Kwok-him, To Kun-sun and Poon Siu-ping, representatives from other disciplined services, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Senior Directorate Group Officers and representatives from Major Formations, Regions, Districts and Police staff associations.

Draped with the Force's Flag, IP Chan's casket was driven to Gallant Garden for the burial service, after his colleagues had paid their last respects.

IP Chan's wife and family thanked the Force and community for their kindness and love for their loved one.

IP Chan was shot in his head in a shoot-out with suspects in an armed robbery in Tai Kok Tsui in 1992. He survived, but suffered from sequelae including losing his senses of smell and taste. After resuming  duty, IP Chan was still a crime-buster and cracked a number of major crimes. He passed away due to illness at the end of August. He will be sorely missed.
