Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) and Emergency Unit Kowloon West Region (EU KW) conducted inter-departmental exercises with Fire Services Department (FSD) on November 5 and December 8 respectively.

KWTDIST conducted the exercise at an oil depot with FSD to test the emergency response, use of equipment and communication among different parties to handle an incident involving a Liquefied Petroleum Gas tank truck and causing fires, explosions and casualties. Upon the activation of an emergency notification system, the scene was brought under control promptly with all the injured persons taken to hospital and the unharmed evacuated safely. KWTDIST organises inter-departmental exercises annually with a view to raising response to emergencies.

In another effort, EU KW hosted a joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) agent attack exercise with FSD at the department's West Kowloon Rescue Training Centre in Yaumatei.

The exercise simulated leakage of an unknown gas in the office of an international company. Upon the arrival of fire engines and EU cars, a suspicious device activated, resulting a large amount of black smoke that injured some staff members and contaminated the first attending FSD and EU officers. Upon receiving request for reinforcement, Police and FSD supporting units rushed to scene.

The exercise further improved the communication and co-operation between the Force and FSD in providing an effective and professional response to a CBRN incident.
