Among the 92 volunteer inspectors appointed by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SPCA) this year, 89 are police officers working at a variety of posts.

At the SPCA Volunteer Inspectors Inauguration Ceremony held on November 28, Deputy District Commander of Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) Alice Lee presented appointment certificates to the new appointees and thanked them for their close co-operation with SPCA and contribution to animal welfare.

Mr Karl Mak, Chief Officer Inspectorate of SPCA, pointed out that among a total of 210 Volunteer Inspectors coming from different disciplined services, 90 per cent are serving police officers. He also appreciated the "Project Animate" launched by KTDIST last year for preventing juvenile delinquency and disseminating the message of caring for animals.

Convener of the Volunteer Inspectors, Superintendent Larry Chan, said, "Rescuing animals is a practical way to enhance the individual and professional qualities of police officers. I hope more volunteers would join our team."
