Police College takes big strides in KM Journey
The last three months saw Police College offer more Knowledge Management (KM) activities, with Assistant Commissioner (Information Systems) Peter Cornthwaite and Deputy Regional Commander Hong Kong Island Cheuk Hau-yip sharing their valuable knowledge and experiences in "Meet A Commissioner Rank Officer" in November and "Blue Moon Sharing" in October respectively.
In the two sessions, Mr Cheuk gave an account of his experience of attending a one-year Royal College of Defence Studies course in UK, while Mr Cornthwaite introduced the latest and future information and communications technology developments of the Force.
Also in November, Prof Paul Yip, Director of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of the University of Hong Kong, gave a talk on "Prevention of Self-harm and Suicide" under another KM activity, "Research Enhanced Applied Policing Series".
The KM "Detective Plus" organises bi-monthly Detective Casebook Series workshops and invited Assistant Commissioner (Crime) John Ribeiro on December 3 to share his experience of kidnap investigation. During this session, Mr Ribeiro, together with Superintendents Lau Shu-sing and Lam Chi-chung, as well as Police Constable Tsang Siu-ming, presented the principles, investigative techniques and challenges of kidnap investigations.
On December 4, Dr Chow Yat, an Associate Consultant in Kwai Chung Hospital and a specialist in psychiatry, gave a talk, under "Beyond Boundaries Learning Series", on Mentally Incapacitated Person (MIP), introducing the skills of identifying, handling and supporting a MIP.
On December 11, the Efficiency Unit appointed Police College Deputy Director 2, Dr Cheng Tak-ming, in his capacity of Chief Knowledge Champion, Honorary Advisor of the Community of Practice on KM. The appointment can be seen as recognition of the Force's success in KM.
