Over 120 officers gathered at Police Headquarters for the traditional pre-Christmas get-together on December 15 and celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of the Senior Officers' Mess (SOM).
Speaking before lunch, the President of the Mess Committee, Ms Lau Chi-wai, offered season's greetings and wished Mess members an auspicious start to 2016. Noting that the Mess underwent considerable refurbishment in 2015 with the opening of the 7th floor Commissioner's Lounge and the installation of new windows in the 6th floor dining room, she emphasised that the justification for the existence of the Mess remained as valid today as it was when the Mess opened its doors in 1955.
Ms Lau also paid a special tribute to the Life Mess Members attending the event, of whom some had travelled from overseas to show their support.
Commissioner Lo Wai-chung also thanked all the officers present for their dedication to duty and assistance during the past year. In a time-honoured tradition, he served Christmas turkey to Mess members, assisted by the two Deputy Commissioners.
