Established in January 2006, the Police College strives to become a centre of excellence in police training and development. To mark its 10th anniversary, in addition to an Open Day, the following events have also been organsied for celebration.
Planting of 'Flame of the Forest'
Commissioner Lo Wai-chung officiated at a Tree Planting Ceremony on the Police College's Aberdeen campus on January 8. Four former College Directors, Mr Tse Shu-chun, Dr Cheuk Chun-yin, Mr Kevin Woods and Mr Cheng Se-lim, were present to witness this significant moment.
The Commissioner, together with Acting Deputy Commissioner (Management) Au Chi-kwong, Director of Police College Paul Lau and Head of School of Foundation Training Rupert Dover, started the proceedings by planting a sapling of the "Flame of the Forest", followed by watering by the incumbent and former College Directors. Finally, the Commissioner unveiled a memorial plaque and delivered a speech highlighting the developments of police training and expressing his appreciation to college staff for their outstanding contributions to police training over the years.
The "Flame of the Forest" signifies both the achievements and realisation of the potential of Police College graduates. Next to the sapling are two 45-year-old "Flame of the Forest" trees, which symbolise the Force's culture of perpetuating knowledge from one generation to the next.
Force appoints two more KM Champions
Director of Police College Paul Lau, in the capacity of Force Knowledge Officer, appointed Dr Leung Sai-kwong, Acting Senior Superintendent (Human Resources & Support) (Auxiliary), and Mr Law Ka-hong, Marine South Divisional Commander, on December 18 Force Knowledge Management (KM) Champions for the new domains of "Auxiliary Policing" and "Marine Policing" respectively. Prof Eric Tsui, the Honorary College Advisor on KM, was present to witness this important moment.
Both the new and the five existing Force KM Champions, under the leadership of the Chief Knowledge Champion, Dr Cheng Tak-ming, will continue to spearhead KM initiatives and promote the Force KM culture.
Stamp and Souvenir Cover Design Competitions
The "10th Anniversary of Police College: Stamp and Souvenir Cover Design Competitions" were held between August and September 2015. The theme of the Competitions was - "Quality and professional training and development provided by Police College and its outstanding achievements in training".
The competitions met with an overwhelming response from Force members, with a total of 107 entries from over 40 competitors received. The judging panel comprised Director of Personnel and Training Au Chi-kwong, two Honorary College Advisors, Mr Fung Siu-yuen and Mr Tse Shu-chun, as well as the Chairman of Hong Kong Police Old Comrades Association, Mr Ho Ming-sun. The judging panel was impressed with the standard of the entries. CP presented prizes to the winners on the Police College's Aberdeen Campus on January 8.
Roadshow on Police Training
Roadshow on "Evolution of Police Training in Hong Kong" is underway until mid-February at Police Sports and Recreation Club and Shun Tai Yuen on Aberdeen Campus. Force members, retired officers and guests are invited to visit the roadshow.
