The Force and the Efficiency Unit jointly hosted an Inter-departmental Knowledge Management (KM) Seminar for directorate officers of other government departments on January 19.

The seminar started with welcoming speeches given by the officiating guests, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung and Mr Kim Salkeld, Head of the Efficiency Unit. This unprecedented KM Seminar attracted about 150 directorate officers from more than 40 government departments and over 200 KM enthusiasts, including the Force's KM Champions and newly appointed KM Ambassadors, representatives from the Formation KM Championship Scheme, and other Force members.

In part I of the seminar, Dr Eric Cheng, Deputy Director 2 of Police College and the Force Chief Knowledge Champion, gave a presentation on the topic of "The Force as a Knowledge Enterprise serving the Local Society in a Global Context". Dr Cheng also shared with the audience the Force's KM journey and emphasised that KM is a lifelong endeavour, through which ways are sought for enhancing the Force's organisational competence.

Another keynote speaker, Prof Eric Tsui, who is an Honorary College Advisor and the Associate Director of the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, spoke about "the lessons learned from nearly 200 cases of KM journeys by Hong Kong and Asian Enterprises".

Part II of the seminar was the "Annual KM Conversations" in which Force KM Champions and representatives from the Formation KM Championship Scheme reported their KM activities in the past and introduced their KM plans and initiatives for the year ahead. Through the "Annual KM Conversations", the spirit of "KM for All" was further promulgated. The success of the seminar marks another milestone of the Force's KM journey.
