The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) hosted an Experience Sharing Session for frontline officers on February 17 with a view to enhancing their communication skills with teenagers for a new project, "Operation CAPESTONE". Attending the session were over 60 police volunteers from Kwun Tong, Sau Mau Ping and Wong Tai Sin districts, representatives from Anti-Triad Squads, Emergency Unit, Police Tactical Unit KE and officers from the Police Community Relations Offices in police districts.
At the session, two social workers from the Outreaching Social Work Team of Boys' & Girls' Club Association of Hong Kong delivered a talk, analysing the psychological and behavioral characteristics of teenagers and teaching the officers how to maintain close ties with teenagers by mastering communication techniques. Moreover, they discussed the difficulties they had come across at work and exchanged views through experience sharing.
"Operation CAPESTONE" targets at teenagers, paying attention to their adolescent crises, such as drug abuse, illegal activities, suicide, interaction with peer groups, runaway behaviour and adaptation to school life. Police will adopt an early intervention approach and, with the consent of the targets, refer their cases to community service agencies.
