The Graduation Ceremony of the first accredited Standard Criminal Investigation Course (SCIC) was held on April 8, marking a new milestone of detective training.

The 165 graduates, including officers from other disciplined services, were awarded the Professional Certificate recognised under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework at Level 5 (at the same level of a Bachelor Degree) for Inspectorate and at Level 4 (at the same level of an Associate Degree and Higher Diploma) for Sergeant and Constable.

Addressing the graduates, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung encouraged them to maintain the five core values of a professional detective: Honour, Passion, Integrity, Fairness and Empathy. He also presented awards to 10 outstanding trainees, including the Baton of Honour to the best all-round Inspector and Silver Whistles to Sergeant and Police Constable as well as the Director's Cup to the best overall Police Constable.

Before senior officials from Education Bureau, Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualification and other law enforcement agencies, Director of Police College Lau Chi-wai presented Professional Certificate to class representatives of the graduates and the trainees from other disciplined services.

With a view to instilling a sense of pride and commitment, each graduate was issued with a Service Excellence Pledge Card. During the ceremony, four trainee representatives made the pledge on stage: "I solemnly pledge that in every investigative duty I perform, I shall act fairly, impartially, professionally and diligently, with a passion to serve the community".
