The Security Services Best Training Award (SSBTA) Presentation Ceremony 2015 took place at Police Headquarters on March 14 when a total of 63 different awards were given to security companies, among which 33 were presented with Gold Award, 20 with Silver Award, five with Bronze Award and two with Merit Award. In addition, three outstanding Gold Award winners were presented with Special Award.
Officiating at the ceremony, Director of Operations Lau Yip-shing pointed out that the overall law and order situation in Hong Kong remained stable in 2015. The contributions of the dedicated security practitioners to maintenance of a low crime rate had helped Hong Kong remain one of the safest and most stable cities in the world.
Mr Lau further pointed out that the age limit for holders of Category B Security Personnel Permit had been raised from 65 to 70 with effect from last December 18. The relaxation would provide more job opportunities for senior citizens who are still physically fit, and help the security services trade lessen its recruitment difficulties.
This year, the Force and the Security Services Training Board of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) have continued to jointly organise the sixth SSBTA, hoping it would encourage more security companies to actively develop training programmes to improve their employees' professional competence.
The SSBTA was divided into three categories: "Type I Security Company Licence" (offering general security services), "Type II Security Company Licence" (offering armoured transportation services), and "Type III Security Company Licence" (offering design, installation, maintenance and repair service of security systems).
An adjudication panel comprising representatives from the Force, VTC and Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority assessed participating companies' investments in their training activities, taking into consideration the numbers of training hours and staff members involved in the past 12 months, coverage of training courses and degree of the management's involvement and support.
