Police College has offered a "Youth-In-Need Engagement Course" to Junior Police Officers (JPOs) working for "youth-in-need". The course was held in November last year and March this year, attracting over 500 participants in total.
Module I of the course provides seminars on basic generic training for frontline JPOs offering youth engagement volunteer service, to enhance their understanding of the youths and youth services. Among the speakers for the seminars were representatives from Criminal Intelligence Bureau, Social Welfare Department, Education Bureau, Labour Department and non-governmental organisations such as Methodist Centre and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Guest speakers included Dr Chan Siu-cheuk, Principal of Zheng Sheng College, Dr Fung Lai-chu of City University of Hong Kong and Dr Poon Kei-yan of Hong Kong Institute of Education.
Module II assists the JPOs serving in School Liaison Office, Juvenile Protection Section, Regional Missing Persons Unit and District Anti-triad Squad as well as other prospective trainees engaging youth-in-need to offer quality services to the community. Module II trainees visited various youth facilities and organisations, including Cape Collinson Correctional Institution, Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution, Youth Outreach and the Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong.
Police College will continue to run the course and the next one has been scheduled for November this year.
