Police College holds second KM Dialogue with AIPM


Following the first fruitful exchange between the Police College and the Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM) on the development of Knowledge Management (KM) in the Force and the innovative training ideas in AIPM, the second KM Dialogue between the College and AIPM was held on April 26.


The Director of Research and Strategy of AIPM, Dr Victoria Herrington, started the Dialogue by giving a presentation on the Research Methodology on Leadership Training in AIPM. She introduced the steps of developing a research strategy and shared her research paper on "Police Leadership for Complex Times". Afterwards, Superintendent of the Police Learning Services Division Leung Ka-mei shared with the AIPM counterparts on Emotional Fitness Training. Deputy Director 2 of the Police College cum the Chief Knowledge Champion of the Force, Dr Cheng Tak-ming, stressed that emotional stability was important for frontline officers to strengthen their resilience and enhance their physical and mental health.


Other KM activities


On the other hand, the Police College has organised other activities to facilitate knowledge sharing among officers.


The "Intellectual 40m" was held on April 20, during which retired Assistant Commissioner (Crime) and currently the Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Department of Sociology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Ng Ka-sing, shared his insights of Generation X. Dr Ng talked about his experiences in dealing with teenagers and offered advice on how to communicate with them in a more effective way.


In the "Beyond Boundaries Learning Series" held at the Police Force Library on April 22, over 50 officers learned invaluable experiences on disaster management and emergency response operations from  Dr Yeung Man-chow and Ms Lam Chuen-ping of the Hong Kong Red Cross. Dr Yeung's presentation on real-life cases in the provision of basic health service for refugees at the Greek border was well-received by the audience. The event concluded with an inspiring sharing session between the speakers and the participants about emergency operations.
