To introduce the applications and new features of the Third Generation of Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System (MIIDSS3), a seminar was held at the Police Headquarters on April 26 for more than 120 officers from various formations.
Speaking at the seminar, Chief Inspector (CIP) of the Support Group for MIIDSS Lam Yuen-kwan explained, "The new system contains modern technologies, including advanced graphical analysis, data import tools and a user-friendly interface, to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency in the investigation of complex crimes and incidents, as well as the management of victim identification and casualty enquiries during major disasters. In addition, MIIDSS3 has introduced a core function to assist the Centre for Health Protection in performing contact tracing analysis during major epidemic outbreaks."
Launched on January 31, MIIDSS3 provides a user-friendly platform to support frontline crime investigation units at Bureau, Regional and District levels. Officers may access an increased number of MIIDSS3 workstations at designated crime formations. A number of pre-defined graphical analytical tools have been developed to assist officers in handling vast amount of data arising from complex investigations, such as mobile phone call analysis and financial investigations.
An officer-in-charge of a case who wants to examine the feasibility of utilising the system in the investigation may contact the Support Group. For details, officers may visit the MIIDSS webpage on the Police Intranet (POINT).
