The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) enters its 13th year for undergraduates of local tertiary institutions, with more than 300 mentors and mentees attending the Closing Ceremony 2015/16 cum Inauguration Ceremony 2016/17 at the Police Headquarters on April 25. Hang Seng Management College joined PMP for the first time, bringing the total number of participating tertiary institutions to 11.
Officiating at the ceremony were Director of Personnel and Training Chiu Wai-yin, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Tang Ping-keung, Head Mentor Lau Chi-wai, Deputy Head Mentor Siu Chak-yee, and guests from the 11 tertiary institutions.
Ms Chiu gave credit to the tertiary institutions and mentors for the success of PMP. She encouraged mentees to take part in the activities of PMP, including the upcoming Job Attachment Programme to be held between June and August, and join the Force after graduation.
In 2016/17, 280 undergraduates have been selected as mentees, who would be guided by 135 mentors. The mentors are volunteer officers who are graduates of the local tertiary institutions. They act as a role model for mentees from their respective alma maters and share with them experiences and challenges in the Force so as to inspire the undergraduates to join the Force. So far, over 300 mentees have joined the Force.
To foster liaison between PMP mentees and the Force, the PMP Alumni was established in 2014 and 330 ex-PMP mentees have joined the Alumni.
