Marine East Division (MEDIV) held a Sai Kung Sea Safety Day to kick off its annual sea safety campaign at their Tui Min Hoi Base on May 6, attracting over 200 community leaders, representatives of other government departments and members of the public. The event aimed to strengthen communication among Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee, local marine groups and government departments concerned in ensuring public safety in the waters off Eastern Hong Kong.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, MEDIV Commander Justin Shave said that a large number of tourists are expected to take part in recreational activities in Sai Kung waters during summer. He outlined a series of programmes that MEDIV will organise with other departments and the community to help make the sea a safer place for visitors.

Apart from MEDIV, other participating units and departments included the Police Dog Unit; Marine Department; Fire Services Department; Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and Government Flying Service (GFS). They set up a variety of booths to introduce their work and disseminate messages on sea safety. The event concluded with a demonstration of how MEDIV and GFS officers rescued a person who fell into the sea.
