With a view to enhancing the professional ability of traffic officers, the Traffic Equipment Training Unit (TETU) of the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre launched a refresher training course on traffic enforcement equipment for frontline traffic officers in March.
The refresher training covered the use of traffic equipment such as Digital MultaRadar, TruCAM & UltraLyte Laser Guns, ProVida HD2000, SmokeMeter, Portable WeighScale as well as Drug Influence Recognition Observation and Impairment Test.
The training course catered mainly for Junior Police Officers or Inspectorate Officers who had completed traffic enforcement equipment training for over four years, or officers who were transferred out and are now posted back to Traffic Formations, or officers who had received training on Impairment Test for drug driving two years ago but had seldom conducted the test.
Senior Inspector of TETU Lau Po-wah said experienced instructors had provided course members with up-to-date information, knowledge and skills on the use of the equipment.
In addition to theories and practical revisions on the operation of the traffic equipment, the course covered integrity management of the Force, a review of the relevant traffic laws, court case studies, an update of the Force's directives and procedures, as well as a brief of the common mistakes in the handling of the equipment.
The initial responses on the course from the regional traffic officers were favourable. TETU will continue to organise such training on a regular basis.
