The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) joined hands with the Rainbow Lutheran Centre to organise a talk on prevention of drug abuse for 20 members of Project Osmond on May 7.
Social workers of the centre explained to the members the harmful effects of taking illicit drugs and psychotropic substance on one's physical and mental health as well as his/her family, citing some fatal cases of drug abuse as examples. Then rehabilitated persons shared their own stories of how they succumbed to drug abuse and now they get back to the right track and have turned a new page of their life.
The members said the talk enabled them to know more about the harmful effects of illicit drugs. Afterwards, they assisted officers in distributing anti-drug leaflets to the public at the shopping malls in Tseung Kwan O.
Project Osmond was launched by the Juvenile Protection Section of RCPO KE with an aim to assisting teenagers supervised under the Superintendent's Discretion Scheme in regaining self-confidence and building up positive values to start a new life.
