Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) conducted a talk on "Laws Related to Domestic Violence and Child Abuse" for some Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) housewives and female students from secondary schools on April 21. Chaired by TMDIST Commander Rupert Dover, the talk covered child protection services, the related laws to protect battered women, ways to handle these cases and the procedures of reporting crime.
Senior Inspector Law Man-ching from the Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North acted as the chief speaker, whilst TMDIST Police Community Relations Officer Choy Chun-wah answered participants' questions to address their concern. Also attending the talk were Senior Social Work Officer (Tuen Mun) from the Social Welfare Department Ms Lo Miu-han and representatives from non-governmental welfare organisations.
The audience thanked TMDIST for promoting cultural integration with the NEC community. They noted that the talk had not only motivated them to spread anti-violence messages in their community, but also beefed up their knowledge of the law on child abuse and family problems.
