The Chairman and 11 members of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), accompanied by Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Cheuk Hau-yip, Chief Superintendent of the Complaints and Internal Investigations Branch (C&IIB) Cheung Kin-kwong and two Deputy Secretaries-General of IPCC, visited Police Tactical Unit headquarters (PTU HQ) on May 31.

After being greeted by Commandant of PTU HQ Au Yeung Chiu-kong, they were briefed by Senior Inspector (Training) Wong Tung-pan on the history of PTU and its current challenges. Officers simulated an exercise in which a parade turned into a riot and so they used different tactics to tackle the situation. The IPCC members also saw a display of equipment. Afterwards, they met officers of companies B and D and Special Tactical Contingent of PTU and exchanged their views.

The visit enabled the IPCC members to get a better understanding of the difficulties of frontline officers in handling public events. C&IIB will arrange similar visits for the IPCC members to other police formations so as to enhance mutual understanding and communication.
