Arranged by the Police College, Chief Inspector Suthida Upathamchart from the Joint Financial Intelligence Unit of the Narcotics Bureau attended a three-week International Visitor Leadership Programme organised by the United States (US) Department of State on "Combating International Crime through Global Co-operation" in April and May in the US.
Ms Upathamchart, together with 17 law enforcement agents and prosecutors from Europe, Africa, South America and Asia, attended meetings with American law enforcement agencies, financial regulators, mayors, judges and attorneys in a number of cities, including Washington, Alexandria, Charlotte, Seattle and New York. The group examined various international crimes such as money laundering, terrorist financing, cyber crime, drug trafficking, and the links between international crime and terrorism.
The programme not only provided the officer with a chance to gain a better understanding of the influence of politics in the US community, but also experienced the local culture and customs.
