After years of planning and construction, the new Yau Ma Tei Police Station at Yau Cheung Road has already been opened. Commissioner Lo Wai-chung officiated at the opening ceremony of the station on June 2 with the presence of many community leaders and local dignitaries.
As the century-old Yau Ma Tei Police Station at Canton Road has been closed to facilitate the building of the Central Kowloon Route, the Police Station has to be relocated to the new premises at Yau Cheung Road to ensure maintenance of Police services.
Built in dark grey and silver white tone, the nine-storey station has a number of newly-designed facilitates, including the New Generation Report Room, barrier-free access facilities, an induction loop system and a nursery.
Apart from designating green areas, the building has adopted energy-saving features and renewable energy technology, such as an innovative outlook for the building to increase air circulation, freshwater-cooled chillers, a cold-water circulation system, a solar-powered hot water system and an automatic demand-control ventilation system with carbon dioxide sensors. These features are expected to save 6.4% energy consumption annually.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lo called on all sectors to continue supporting the Force. He also encouraged officers of Yau Ma Tei Division to uphold the spirit of "We Serve with Pride and Care" to provide quality services to the public.
After the ceremony, the guests toured the facilities, and found the new design of the station impressive.
