The Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit (FCSV) and the Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) co-organised a Crime Prevention Seminar for the community of the mentally incapacitated on June 24. The event attracted the attendance of over 120 persons including mentally incapacitated persons (MIPs) as well as their parents, teachers and social workers from 48 self-help groups, schools and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
In an attempt to enhance the MIP community's awareness on crime prevention, officers from FCSV, CPB, the Commercial Crime Bureau, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau and the Narcotics Bureau explained to the participants the general crime trend as well as other criminal threats such as bullying, commercial crimes relating to financial intermediaries, risks associated with the Internet and social media, and exploitation of MIPs for drug trafficking and sexual offences.
FCSV also briefed the participants on the Crime Wing's policy initiatives developed for MIPs, and the special procedures for protecting vulnerable persons in criminal investigation and judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, Regional Crime Prevention Officers from all regions also attended the seminar with a view to relaying the messages later to NGOs and self-help groups in their respective region.
