Led by Deputy Director 1 of the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) Cho Ming-lung, an executive management team of the HKPC and 12 Superintendents from different units of the Force participated in the first phase of the International Executive Development in Policing Certificate (IEDPC) Programme at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa from July 4 to 15. This was the third time that the Canadian Police College jointly ran the programme with the HKPC.
The IEDPC Programme offered an opportunity for participants to gain a valuable insight of the global policing community and the challenges of senior law enforcement leaders in managing a police authority in a rapidly changing society. Covering online educational activities, lectures and experiential learning, the e-learning phase of the programme started in March this year. During the first classroom session in Ottawa, the participants attended a range of workshops on ethical leadership, strategic communication, strategic change management, organisational accountability and crisis management. The subject of Strategic Change Project also formed a key aspect of the curriculum.
The second classroom phase of the IEDPC Programme will continue in May next year. By then the Canadian Police counterparts will come to Hong Kong to participate in a reciprocal two-week programme conducted by the HKPC.
On the occasion of this visit, the HKPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Police College to run the IEDPC Programme for three more years.
