Chief Superintendent of the Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch Ng Suk-fun led a delegation of seven officers to Singapore from July 12 to 15 to attend the Asian Conference of Criminal and Operations Psychology (ACCOP) 2016. Organised by the Home Team Psychological Services at the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore, the conference was built on the theme of "Emerging Trends in Crime, Safety and Security: The Role of Behavioural Sciences".


Other delegates were Superintendent (SP) Cheung Kwok-wai of the Recruitment Division, SP Lee Cho-ming and Senior Inspector Choi Wing-yuk of the Staff Relations Division, Clinical Psychologists Dr Mak Lai-ping and Lai Hiu-wai and members of the Carelink Cadre, Chief Inspectors Cheung Leung-yuk and Chan Ching-sum.


The ACCOP Organising Committee also invited Officer-in-charge of the Hong Kong Police Negotiation Cadre Dr Wong Kwong-hing and Senior Clinical Psychologist Dr Lau Kam-lun respectively as the Keynote Speaker and International Scientific Advisor of the conference.


The delegation joined over 300 security and disciplined officers from 15 countries/areas to talk about recent researches on behavioural sciences and their application in public security, criminal matters and counter-terrorism. Two of the delegates, Dr Mak and Ms Lai, gave presentations at the conference respectively about the re-adjustment of frontline officers after large-scale public events and the psychological equipment for public events (T.A.K.E.).


The delegates also visited the Police Recruitment Division and Police Psychological Services Division of Singapore Police Force to get to know about their recruitment policy, and psychological projects in support of their police officers.
