Acting Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Cheung Kin-chung and Secretary for Security Mr Lai Tung-kwok, with the company of Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, visited the participants of the Junior Police Call (JPC) Fight Crime Summer Camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village on August 17.
To tie in with the theme of the summer camp this year - "Be Positive and Cheerful, Fight Crime at a New Perspective", the officials officiated at the launching ceremony and encouraged some 1 400 JPC campers to develop positive life values and assist the Force to combat crime. Founder of the Polar Museum Foundation Dr Lee Lok-sze and the "Son of the star" Mr Chan Yik-hei were invited to to share their philosophy of life and experiences with the JPC campers.
Mr Lai said that the JPC Scheme has been promoting sound life values among the youths through multi-faceted activities in a bid to groom them to be fight crime partners and future leaders. He added that a Climate Change Bookmark Design Competition was introduced this year to raise JPC members' awareness of global warming and environmental conservation. The champion, and first and second runners-up of the competition went to JPC members of Kwai Tsing District, Yau Tsim District and Shatin District respectively.
Afterwards, the officiating guests toured around the camp and visited some crime prevention booths designed by the JPC members of 20 districts and an exhibition set up by the Hong Kong Observatory on climate change. JPC members of Border District, Central District and Wong Tai Sin District secured the championship and the first and second runners-up positions respectively in the Fight Crime Booth Design Competition.
The annual summer camp is organised by the Force with an aim to enhancing JPC members' awareness of crime and drug abuse as well as promoting other positive values to the JPC members. To facilitate these members in exploring their career development, a series of activities had been staged in the summer camp from August 16 to 19, including a talk, a sharing session, workshops, training sessions and life planning activities. A singing contest was also organised and JPC members of Kowloon City District, Wanchai District and Central District claimed the champion, and the first and second runners-up titles respectively.
