The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) hosted the second Cyber Security Seminar on August 29 to alert practitioners of email-based cyber attacks and the related prevention tips. The seminar attracted the participation of more than 390 professionals from various sectors, including banking & financial services, transportation services, communication services, public services, government services, money services, and secretarial and accounting services.


Delivering opening remarks at the seminar, Superintendent of the Cyber Security Division Law Yuet-wing stressed that email has been widely exploited as a tool for launching cyber attacks and there is a growing trend of monetary loss in relation to email scams. Senior Inspector (SIP) Tai Tze-bun talked about prevalent phishing email attacks and demonstrated how cybercriminals might steal network information through the transmission of a computer virus. Then SIP Tsang Lee shared the modus operandi of email frauds and tips for detecting bogus emails.


The speakers also highlighted the best practices in managing cyber security risks and urged the attendees to devise measures to mitigate email-based cyber attacks.
