The Emergency Unit of New Territories North (EU NTN) rolled out Project SMARTTROOP earlier with a view to enhancing a sense of resilience of frontline officers in the region to reduce their risk of work injury. The project offers opportunities for uniformed frontline officers who have not yet received Police Tactical Unit (PTU) training or have been transferred out of the PTU for more than three years to attend a one-day training programme to learn the tactics and techniques in handling cases involving violent persons.

The Training Team of EU NTN Operational Base has devised a series of tactical training subjects, including stop, question and search, handling of prisoners, use of force, resistance control, and handling emotional or violent persons, with the aid of scenario exercises, to enhance officers' professional competence in dealing with these cases and increase their occupational safety and health (OSH) awareness.

So far, more than 150 frontline officers had received training and gave positive feedbacks. The project will continue to be held to provide more training opportunities for eligible officers.
