In order to enhance co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland in tackling illegal immigrants, a delegation led by the Divisional Chief of the Border Control Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Mr Yin Cheng-jun, visited Hong Kong from September 26 to 29 to meet with officials of the Security Bureau and other relevant law enforcement agencies. Members of the delegation included border security and immigration officials from the Public Security Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The delegation visited Lok Ma Chau Control Point, Marine Regional Headquarters and Operations Wing, at which they discussed with local officers about the strategies and tactics against illegal immigration and observed field demonstrations on related operations.
As a highlight of the visit, the delegation attended a meeting with the Security Bureau, the Force and the Immigration Department on September 27, during which they formalised a mechanism of liaison and intelligence exchange between Hong Kong and Guangxi. Together with the existing protocol established with Guangdong, a comprehensive platform has been established amongst the three regions to implement the anti-illegal immigration strategies.
Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Cheng Yiu-mo said the visit was constructive as it further strengthened the partnership between the law enforcement agencies of Hong Kong and the Mainland in stemming the influx of illegal immigrants into Hong Kong.
