With the kick off of the Active School Programme for 2016/17 in October, seven police sports clubs are ready to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle to primary and secondary school students.
Following the launching of the Active School Programme by the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association in 2013, the Hong Kong Police Sports Council (HKPSC) has been one of the supporting organisations for the programme since July last year with an aim to cultivating students' sports habits, as well as creating a vibrant and healthy environment for the growth of children.
The Chairperson of the HKPSC, Assistant Commissioner Lui Hon-kwok, was invited to attend the launching ceremony of the Active School Programme 2016/17 cum Experience Sharing Session on August 25. He said the programme has instilled positive energy into schools over the past few years, with the number of participating schools increasing from 11 to 80. In addition to sports training, the students have a chance to interact with officers via a different facet.
The Police Basketball Club and Police Karate-do Club were the pioneers in supporting the programme last year while the Police Athletics Club, Police Archery Club and Police Badminton Club joined the programme from April. These five police sports clubs provided sports training to 11 schools earlier this year.
The Active School Programme has entered a new phase in October. Given the continuous support of the five sports clubs and the participation of two more police clubs - the Police Football Club and Police Volleyball Club, the HKPSC is dedicated to promoting more diverisified sports activities and strengthening partnership with youngsters through this engagement programme.
