The 17th meeting of the INTERPOL Asia-Pacific Expert Group on Organized Crime (APEG) was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 24 and 25. Chief Superintendent (CSP) of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) Chan Lok-wing attended the meeting in the capacity as the Chairman of the APEG. Other Force representatives included Superintendent (SP) of OCTB Ho Chun-tung, SP of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) Chan Kwok-ho, Senior Inspector (SIP) of OCTB Chan Kar-kin and SIP of CCB Chan Kwok-wai. SP Lui Che-ho, who is attached to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, co-ordinated the co-hosting of the meeting with the Royal Thai Police.
The participants of the meeting included 35 crime managers from 12 member jurisdictions and INTERPOL that are specialised in tackling organized crimes. They held a debriefing on the joint anti-illegal soccer gambling operation conducted during the UEFA EURO 2016, and formulated the way forward in combatting international organized crimes.
The APEG was formed under Project Asian Organized Crime, which was established by a Hong Kong police officer seconded to the INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon in 2006, with the purpose of connecting law enforcement agencies of member jurisdictions within the Asia-Pacific region and their counterparts in other member jurisdictions for fostering intelligence exchange and formulating operational initiatives in combatting Asian organized crimes. CSP OCTB has been elected as the Chairman of the APEG since its establishment.
