I write to express my sincerest gratitude and appreciation towards the services rendered by Station Sergeant K.Y. So, Patrol Subunit 2, Kowloon City Division.
A close friend of mine died unexpectedly last week. The case was handled by Sergeant So, who provided us with clear and helpful guidance and explanations. To many police officers, it was probably a routine duty; there was no drama or heroic act. What impressed us most, however, was the way that Sergeant So carried out his duties.
Throughout our interactions, Sergeant So was patient, courteous, sensitive and thorough. He made extra effort in helping us to locate the deceased's car, and later made several telephone calls to follow up. He addressed both the practical and psychological needs of the deceased's family. In front of us was clearly not an officer getting through routines, but a caring professional serving his fellow citizens with respect, dedication and, above all, compassion.
Sadly, this is not the kind of things that news reports would talk about, but it can be so important in desperate and difficult times. The deceased's young wife and myself are extremely grateful for his assistance.
As a doctor and a teacher at one of the local medical schools, I can only say that my peers and students have much to learn from Sergeant So.
Sergeant So should be very proud of what he is doing. The Hong Kong Police Force should also be very proud of itself for having trained and cultivated someone like Sergeant So. The people of Hong Kong are very lucky to have you all.
Yours sincerely
GKK Leung
(Editor's note: The officer mentioned in this letter is SSGT So Kwan-yeung from PSU 2 KCDIV)
