Kowloon West (KW) Region established on January 1 eight Evidence Gathering Teams (EGTs), comprising both Uniform Branch personnel and crime officers from Mong Kok, Yau Tsim, Kowloon City and Sham Shui Po districts, to take responsibility of evidence gathering and enforcement actions in public processions and rallies.
To equip the EGT members with the necessary professional knowledge in handling public events, KW Regional Public Order Event Investigation Team (RPOEIT) arranged a half-day training session covering classroom lecture and simulation exercises at the respective KW districts last December.
On January 7, RPOEIT KW staged a practical field-day training exercise, codenamed TURNYCLOUD, at the Tactical Training Centre of the Police College to strengthen the competencies of the EGT members. The exercise featured eight scenarios tailored to the characteristics of the public events in KW. With the assistance of the Police Tactical Unit B Company (KW), the eight EGTs took turns to participate in the simulated exercise under the guidance of Chief Inspector Li Chi-kin and Senior Inspector Lo Chung-wong from RPOEIT KW.
KW Regional Commander Cheuk Hau-yip encouraged the EGT members to carry out their duties in a professional manner, and reiterated a number of salient points to enhance their abilities in gathering evidence during public events.
