Acting Administrator of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (US DEA) Mr Chuck Rosenberg led a two-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on Commissioner Lo Wai-chung on January 12. The visit was part of Mr Rosenberg's tour to Mainland China (Beijing and Guangzhou), Hong Kong and Thailand.
During the courtesy call, Mr Rosenberg said that the fast-growing Far East Region had a significant bearing on the ever-changing criminal and international security environment in the global arena. He expected that his Asian tour would enable him to better understand the region and lay a solid foundation for closer co-operation with the Asian jurisdictions. He also affirmed the Hong Kong Police Force's efforts in keeping the territory a safe financial hub in the world.
In light of the joint efforts between the US and China in fighting against global drug trade, the US DEA is considering to set up a new office in Guangzhou. The initiative would further strengthen the US DEA's ties with the Hong Kong Police Force.
