Director of Crime and Security Au Chi-kwong led a six-member delegation, including Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Chung Siu-yeung and Chief Superintendent of the Commercial Crime Bureau Wong Ying-wai, to attend the 23rd INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference (IARC) in Kathmandu, Nepal, from January 18 to 20.
Under the main theme of the IARC - "Law Enforcement Cooperation in Asia - Current and Future Challenges", representatives from different jurisdictions discussed a wide range of regional strategies on the prevention, investigation, detection and prosecution of terrorists, organised and emerging crime groups as well as the increasingly sophisticated and diversified modus operandi of cyber criminals. It was also the first conference attended by the Vice-Minister of Public Security, Mr Meng Hongwei, in his capacity as the President of INTERPOL.
At the invitation of INTERPOL, Mr Wong gave a presentation on financial organised crime, covering an overview of the financial crime situation in Hong Kong, case studies, the relevant legislations, regulatory regimes as well as strategies currently adopted by the Hong Kong Police Force. On the other hand, Superintendent Kung Hing-fun, who is seconded to the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore as Regional Specialised Officer, also gave a presentation on the Activity Report for Asia and South Pacific in 2016.
Meanwhile, Mr Chung led some delegates to visit the Headquarters of the Nepal Police. Both parties exchanged views on their own policing challenges and the responding strategies.
