The Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit co-organised a programme concerning "Training on Handling Abuse Cases against Children and Mentally Incapacitated Persons (MIPs)" with the Social Welfare Department (SWD) for Hong Kong and Macao representatives on February 13 and 14.
Some 250 participants from the Force, SWD, Department of Health, Department of Justice, Education Bureau, Hospital Authority and some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Hong Kong shared their experience on the protection of children and MIPs with 21 Macao delegates of the Public Security Police Force, Judiciary Police, Social Welfare Bureau and NGOs.
Trainers from the Force talked about the pertinent legislation, police and judicial procedures relating to child abuse and cases involving MIPs while mentors from the Force's Psychological Services Group highlighted the importance of professional sensitivity when handling these cases while SWD instructors spoke on the related laws and principles from the welfare perspective.
The programme provided an opportunity for frontline police officers, social workers, clinical psychologists and other stakeholders to foster co-operation and communication on the protection of vulnerable people.
