The Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM) Carnival 2017 took place at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on March 5, drawing the participation of 7 145 regular and auxiliary officers, civilian staff and their families.
Organised by the Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch in conjunction with 49 Police Sports and Arts Clubs, the carnival featured sports contests, game booths and performances to encourage the participants to do regular exercises, pay more attention to their physical and psychological health and remain financially prudent.
In addition to free health consultations offered by the Hong Kong Society of Medical Professionals, the Force's Psychological Services Group and Welfare Services Group ran game booths to disseminate the messages of positive psychological well-being and parent-child relationship respectively. Another game booth was set up by the Staff Relations Group to provide information on prudent financial management.
Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Senior Directorate Group members and many Formation Commanders attended the carnival to share the joy with the participants, and presented prizes to winners of various competitions and the Fitness Training Room Management Excellence Award. Twenty-six officers were presented with the Force Colours Award for Sports by Mr Lo while 11 officers were given the Force Colours Award for Arts. Sergeant Ng Cheuk-yin was awarded the Watson Cup as the Outstanding Athlete of the Year whereas New Territories South Regional Headquarters clinched the Purdon Shield for the first time for their outstanding performance in sports.
Another highlight of the day was the Flag Presentation Ceremony for the World Police and Fire Games 2017, which will be held in Los Angeles, the United States, between August 7 and 16. Mr Lo handed over the Force flag to the Chairman of the Police Sports Council, Mr Lui Hon-kwok, to mark the Force's participation in the Games.
