New Territories South (NTS) Region has scheduled a series of sharing sessions for their junior inspectors or other interested officers of the region to enhance their professional knowledge and to strengthen their capability. The first session was held on February 28, with Police Community Relations Officer of Sha Tin District cum deputy team leader of the Police Negotiation Cadre Sean Lin sharing his community policing skills and experience in liaising with the media.
The speakers of the monthly sharing sessions are mainly NTS chief inspectors and superintendents who have extensive experience and expertise in various aspects of police work, such as handling public events, preparing court case documents, financial investigation and counter terrorism. Experts from other units will also be invited to speak on specific topics, such as licensing issues and cyber crime.
During the first seminar, Mr Lin inspired the participants to explore the subject of community engagement through scenario-based activities. The event has not only increased the participants' understanding about community policing, but also provided them with practical media liaison skills. The next sharing session had been arranged in late March, with a consultant of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals sharing the trend of cruelty to animals and techniques in handling such cases.
