The Force launched the Selected Traffic Enforcement Priorities (STEP) 2017 in mid-March to highlight its stringent enforcement actions against traffic offences relating to accidents or obstruction of traffic flow. A multi-agency approach and three "E" strategies, namely public engagement, road engineering and proactive enforcement, has been adopted to achieve the Government's vision of "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal".

To rise to the challenges of the ever-increasing complexity of traffic policing, the Force continues to take strict enforcement actions against STEP-related offences and would focus on public engagement and media exposure, community engagement, partnership with strategic stakeholders and wider application of technology in enforcement. Traffic Branch Headquarters (TBHQ) will collaborate with the relevant bureaux and departments to explore the best use of technology to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of traffic enforcement.

Superintendent (Administration) of TBHQ Yip Siu-ming will hold a series of operational briefings on STEP with frontline commanders and staff associations in early April. He encourages colleagues to browse the Force's public website and the relevant road safety video clips to get a better understanding of the STEP operations and publicity exercises. All promotional materials about STEP 2017 have been uploaded to POINT for officers' reference.
