A group of secondary school students and Force members celebrated the first anniversary of the Force's youth programme, Project Growth. The Force received good feedbacks from the principals, teachers and the participating students about the project and therefore decided to expand the project from Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) to Kowloon City District (KCDIST) and Kwun Tong District (KTDIST), bringing the total number of mentees to over 160.
The project was launched by the Recruitment Division (RECDIV) and KWTDIST in January 2016 with an aim to cultivating the social and personal development of the mentees, attracting high-calibre mentees to join the Force, and enhancing mutual trust between young people and frontline officers. Twenty-two officers who graduated from the participating schools were recruited as mentors of the project to boost a sense of belonging of both the mentees and the mentors.
More than 250 participants including officers from the Human Resources Branch and the three police districts as well as the principals, teachers and mentees from the nine participating schools took part in the Project Growth 2016/17 Closing Ceremony cum 2017/18 Inauguration Ceremony at the Police Headquarters on March 15. After Chief Superintendent of the Human Resources Branch Lee Kwok-chung presented the Enthusiasm Award to three outstanding mentees, the officiating guest, Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Siu Chak-yee, kicked off a magic show with the school representatives to mark the first anniversary of the project and the inauguration of the project in 2017/18.
Arrangements would be made for the mentees to visit a police station and sharing sessions with the mentors in April, and a Recruitment Seminar is scheduled to be held in May to enhance the mentees' understanding of the Force.
