The Operations Wing's Police Tactical Unit Operations (Contingent 1) (PTU OPS CONT 1) initiated a series of workshops and large-scale internal training exercises to prepare for handling possible incidents during the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
A counter-terrorism workshop was conducted in early April to enhance officers' knowledge of terrorist activities. Senior Inspector Tung Hei-man of the Counter Terrorism and Internal Security Division was invited to speak on the global trend of terrorism and the Force's anti-terrorism strategies while a Platoon commander explained the responsibilities of PTU officers in major incidents and terrorist activities. The participants also took part in a practical session to simulate the setting up of the Affected Person Processing Unit during a terrorist incident.
In addition, the PTU Headquarters organised thematic training in March and April to enable officers to familiarise with the new tactics. After an in-depth seminar, the instructors arranged a practical exercise simulating the whole PTU company being summoned to tackle a violent and confrontational public event. The participants said that the training enabled them to apply the new tactics more confidently and flexibly.
