Deputy Commissioner (Management) (DCP MAN) Chau Kwok-leung went to Tianjin from April 10 to 14 to witness the running of a mobile tactics training course by a Force team for the Tianjin Public Security Profession College. He also officiated at the graduation ceremony of the course, which was jointly held by the Force and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).
The Force's tactics training team, guided by Chief Inspector of the Weapons Training Division (WTD) Tang Che-leung and involving eight WTD instructors, gave training to 100 Public Security Bureau (PSB) officers from Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong Provinces and Beijing Municipality. The scenario-based training covered the procedures of stop, question and search of suspects; interception of vehicles and search of premises.
Officiating at the graduation ceremony, Mr Chau presented certificates to the trainees and commended them for their enthusiasm and diligence in completing the five-day course. With over 2 000 PSB officers in different provinces and cities attending the course since 2003, Mr Chau quoted MPS's figures as saying that the number of PSB officers injured in line of duty had significantly dropped. In this connection, the Hong Kong Police Force would continue to organise the course for more PSB officers in a bid to contribute to the safety of the Mainland counterparts. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Tianjin PSB, the Personnel & Training Department of the MPS and the Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for their support.
During Mr Chau's stay in Tianjin, he also met the management of the Tianjin PSB and the Tianjin Public Security Profession College. Both sides affirmed the results of the reciprocal study programmes of the security authorities of the Mainland and Hong Kong, and explored collaboration in other training matters.
