Director of the Police College Lau Chi-wai led a group of trainees of the first phase of the Junior Command Course 2017 for a half-day exchange with Hong Chi Morninghill School, a school in Tseung Kwan O for children with special education needs, on April 26.

The school's Principal, Dr Fok Chun-wing, told the trainees the challenges of special education while Vice-Principal Mr Chan Chun-hung and senior teacher Ms Carrie Lam shared their experience in the identification and handling of children with special education needs. The highlights of the visit were a performance by the school's silver band and an opportunity to mingle with the children.

Ms Lau said the command courses held by the Police College for all levels shared a common objective to raise officers' professional standard and to enhance their engagement with the community. In addition to visits to social service organisations, much emphasis had been placed on the strengthening of participative and experiential learning. These initiatives had proved effective in enhancing officers' professionalism and achieving synergy by collaborating with different organisations and professions.

This was the third time that trainees of the Junior Command Course visited the Morninghill School. One of the trainees said, "The opportunity to learn the difficulties in the special education front has reflected deeply on the challenges of the current police work." On the other hand, Dr Fok was impressed with the interaction between the trainees and the children.
