The Police College has taken over the management of the Police Museum from the E Department with effect from March. Director of the Police College Lau Chi-wai received the museum key from Police Civil Secretary Mr Leung Ho-yin at a handover ceremony on May 9 to symbolise the changeover, with Director of Personnel and Training Chiu Wai-yin as the officiating guest of the ceremony.
Ms Lau expressed thanks to Mr Leung for his leadership and colleagues of the E Department for their efforts in running the museum smoothly over the years. The Police College will continue to exhibit the history of the Force through the museum and will strive to develop it into a heritage centre in a bid to instill a sense of belonging and professional pride among Force members and to promote the positive image of the Force.
The Police College has lined up a series of activities to promote the Police Museum. One of the initiatives are thematic exhibitions which are held jointly with the Force Library for the first time for displaying artefacts at the Library. The theme of the first and current exhibition is "General History of Hong Kong Police Force". Apart from police badges and hats, other items on display are police uniforms in 1960s and a sword made for commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Force. All Force members are welcome to visit the exhibition at the Force Library in the Police Headquarters.
